The first sign is that he or she has something to gain (usually financially) from you relationship and brings very little to the table.
The typical assumption is that men may use women for sex and women may use men for money. Well it also can work the other way around.
There are many signs such as secrecy when it comes to his/her cell phone, being unreachable at times, starting fights or arguments for apparently no reason (just to have a reason to leave for a while) always insisting that he/she visits your home and not welcoming you to his/hers and hanging out with you and your friends but never bringing you around his/her friends or relatives.
These relationships never end well and never work out. The best thing to do if you find yourself in such a situation is to end it and walk away. You really don't even need to prove what’s going on, you already know that you aren't satisfied with the way the relationship is going or you wouldn't even be thinking about a P.I. In a marriage situation, it may be necessary to gather evidence for protection of assets and in some cases for child custody issues; but in a dating situation, those issues don't commonly come into play. Just walk, or maybe run, away!
I had a man once tell me that he knew his fiancé was just with him for the money, but he was just with her for her body and that made it even or somehow ok. What he hadn't considered is that she didn't have anything to lose; he couldn’t run off with her body and leave her behind. She; however could separate him from his money and leave him broke. That is exactly what happened to him.
It is in rare cases that we except Boyfriend/ Girlfriend type cases for surveillance. When we do accept them it is most commonly to comfort concerned family members.
